Research Assistant in a project “Real-Time Communications”

Das Aufgabengebiet umfasst u. a.

The IEEE Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) task group has developed various standards that make Ethernet suitable for use in real-time environments and increase reliability. For this purpose, different scheduling mechanisms and shapers were defined according to which the packets are forwarded. This makes it possible to use Ethernet, for example, for communication in future train control systems, where hard real-time requirements have to be met. Together with Siemens AG and other partners from industry and academia, methods for the model-based development of future control systems for rail vehicles are to be developed and investigated in this project. An essential goal is to be able to derive models for different variants of rail vehicles from an overall model in SysML. In our sub-project, the real-time capabilities of the communication system are to be assessed. Network Calculus should be used for this purpose. Hard real-time limits can be calculated using Network Calculus. To do this, arrival and service curves must first be determined for the system to be examined. From these, bounds for packet latencies and buffer sizes can then be determined in a compositional approach using analytical methods. In this project, models for variants of the communication model are to be derived from the overall model and analyzed automatically using Network Calculus. It is also planned to feed the results of the analysis of the variant models back to the overall model so that they can be used again in subsequent analyzes.
As part of this cooperation there is the possibility to work towards receiving a Ph.D. The scientific work in a research lab at FAU on the one hand and the cooperation with various industrial partners on the other hand offer exceptional work experience both in academia and in industry and exciting further development possibilities.

Notwendige Qualifikation

  • Over-average master‘s degree in computer science or related field of study

  • Motivation to work both in an academic and industrial context

  • Very good skills in communication and team work, reliability

  • Mathematical skills

  • Skills in model-based software development

Wünschenswerte Qualifikation

Knowledge in one or several of the following topics:


  • Analytical modeling with Network Calculus

  • Experience in SysML

  • Knowledge and/or experience in the mobility domain

Bemerkungen

  • Full-time position according to E 13 TV-L

  • For a limited time of 3 years

  • Obtaining a Ph.D. degree is possible

  • Operating place is Erlangen
