Research assistant (m/f/d) with the perspective of a doctorate – „Diffusion of anisotropic particles in nanodispersions by dynamic light scattering“
The Institute of Advanced Optical Technologies Thermophysical Properties (AOT-TP) focuses on the development and application of experimental and theoretical methods for the determination of material properties of fluids in energy and process engineering. In the context of a research project in the fields of optics and material property research for particle technology (download a detailed description here) , the institute AOT-TP is looking for a
Research assistant (m/f/d) with the perspective of a doctorate - "Diffusion of anisotropic particles in nanodispersions by dynamic light scattering"
The area of responsibility includes
The major goal is the evaluation of the dynamic light scattering (DLS) method for its capabilities regarding the investigation of the diffusion of anisotropic nanoparticles dispersed in liquids.
More specifically, the tasks comprise:
- Performing experimental investigations by DLS using different polarization arrangements on selected nanodispersions containing (a) so-called patchy particles or (b) particles with low symmetry (e.g., triangular or rectangular plates) or shapes such as cubes or pyramids
- Testing of evaluation approaches to obtain diffusion coefficients from the recorded intensity correlation functions
- Close collaboration with the other members of the institute and partners providing the particles and/or nanodispersions
- Contribution to exercises, seminars and practical courses as well as supervision of students in the context of theses
Necessary qualification
- Above-average degree in the field of engineering or natural sciences
- Enthusiasm for independent scientific work
- Strong interests in optics and thermophysical property research
- High level of commitment, ability to work in a team and reliability
- Good to very good knowledge of English
Remarks
We offer a multidisciplinary, teamwork-oriented, and international working environment with excellent potential for scientific and personal development.
