Research assistant (m/f/d) with the perspective of a doctorate - "Influence of solubility, viscosity, and diffusion coefficient in blowing-agent-loaded plastic melts on the structure of polymer foams"

The area of responsibility includes

  • Realization of the setup for the accurate measurement of diffusion coefficients in blowing-agent-loaded plastic melts by dynamic light scattering (DLS)
  • Integration of the methods of Raman spectroscopy and isochoric saturation for measurement of the solubility of the blowing agent in the plastic melt simultaneous to the application of DLS
  • Experiments for systematically selected mixtures of blowing agent and polymer at temperatures and pressures up to 300 °C and 20 MPa
  • Interpretation of the measurement signals and the resulting properties
  • Correlation of the obtained data considering physically-based and empirical approaches
  • Using molecular dynamics simulations for the analysis of the melt structure and for the calculation of thermophysical properties
  • Close collaboration with the other members of the institute and the project partners from the University of Stuttgart
  • Contribution to exercises, seminars and practical courses as well as supervision of students in the context of theses

Necessary qualification

  • Above-average degree in the field of engineering or natural sciences
  • Enthusiasm for independent scientific work
  • Strong interests in optics and thermophysical property research
  • High level of commitment, ability to work in a team and reliability
  • Good to very good knowledge of English

Desirable qualification

  • Basic knowledge in the programming language LabVIEW
  • Experience in the fields of optical metrology, control technology, and/or electrical engineering
