Research assistant (m/f/d) with the perspective of a doctorate: 'Single cell and short stack studies in alkaline water electrolysis to understand and counteract degradation mechanism'

The Chair for Power-to-X Technologies develops technologies for an sustainable chemical industry, which is not dependent on fossil resources but employs water, carbon dioxide and molecular nitrogen as common available feed and electrical energy to drive conversions.A multidisciplinary approach from chemical engineering, material sciences and chemistry is employed to provide scientific solutions e.g. for the complex interplay of reaction and transport and how the interplay is influenced by materials and process conditions.

Within the EU project ELECTROLIFE several academic groups and industry partner collaborate to understand and prevent the degradation of various water electrolysis techniques. For the research on alkaline water electrolysis we are seeking for a research assistant with the perspective of a doctorate.

Ihre Aufgaben

  • Design and assembly of single cells and short stacks for testing
  • Developing degradation testing protocols as well as EIS and DRT analysis
  • Working with an existing test bench and putting a new one into operation for long term stability studies in alkaline water electrolysis, including safety concepts and data acquisition
  • Experimental planning including Design of Experiment approaches
  • Materials and electrolyte characterization to deduce degradation mechanisms
  • In depth data evaluation and correlation
  • Close collaboration with project partners
  • Project reporting
  • Dissemination of results to scientific community
  • Supervision of students in the context of the research

Ihr Profil

Notwendige Qualifikationen:

  • Above-average degree in the field of chemical engineering, chemistry or material sciences. For natural scientists knowhow in technical testing e.g. on single cells is needed.
  • Enthusiasm for independent scientific work as well as international collaboration
  • High level of commitment, ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team and reliability
  • You are proficient in the English language; proficiency in the German language is beneficial though not essential.

Wünschenswerte Qualifikationen:

  • Background in electrochemical engineering or electrochemistry with full cell/system knowledge
  • Experience in electrochemical full cell testing
  • Experience in designing, setting up and automation of (electro)chemical test rigs
