Senior postdoc (3+3 years) in climate/atmospheric modeling at Institute of Geography
The Climate System Research Group (link) at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), Institute of Geography, invites applications for a senior Postdoc position in the field of climatology and climate modeling. The groups research aims at the study of multi-scale atmospheric processes that connect global climate change signals and regional/local changes in all climatic zones, with a focus on cold regions (high mountains and ice sheets).
Senior postdoc (3+3 years) in climate/atmospheric modeling at Institute of Geography
Das Aufgabengebiet umfasst u. a.
Regarding research, the candidate should have a process-based modeling focus and experience with running high-resolution numerical models on supercomputers. Since we already have a glaciology modeling group at our institute, we expect a clear atmospheric modeling component in your work. However, affinity with cryospheric research is a bonus. A further bonus is experience with field work, or at least a good knowledge of working with measurement data.
Notwendige Qualifikation
Besides research, the position has a teaching load of 5 hours per week, and some administrative work at the institute level is expected. Since German is the first language in administration and in our undergraduate programs, knowledge of German is a precondition. If you are not a native speaker, you should at least demonstrate solid experience with German. Teaching in English is only possible in our international masters program Climate & Environmental Sciences.
Bemerkungen
FAU has facilities in two neighboring cities in the south of Germany, Erlangen and Nürnberg, which are characterized by a vibrant student community and by its scenic setting, respectively. The university is the second largest in the state of Bavaria, and regularly scores highly in international rankings, particularly in research-related areas. At our institute, we also have a remote sensing group with a focus on cold-region climate, a glaciology modeling group, and a paleoclimate group. Hence there are ample opportunities to collaborate within climate research under one roof.
Interviews will be held online at the end of July. The preferred start date is as soon as possible, ideally not later than October.
If you have any questions on the scientific scope of the position, please contact the group leader (Thomas Mölg thomas.moelg@fau.de). Please understand that applications without any mention of your German language skills will not be processed.
The position is available for 6 years initially (3+3), and has a total scope of 12 years (depending on your experience; German pay scale E13 or A13).
FAU is seeking to augment the number of women in research and teaching and specifically addresses female scientists to apply for this position. We further encourage persons with disabilities to apply. If desired, a member of the equal opportunity office of FAU can participate in the selection process without any disadvantage for the applicant.
